Office Of Children's Services

Are you wondering where your passion for helping others will lead you?

Do you dream of helping children? Can you see yourself making a difference every day in a child’s life? Can you imagine doing it while surrounded by some of the most beautiful, majestic scenery in the world?

Then the State of Alaska Office of Children’s Services has a career opportunity for you!
Like you, we know there is nothing more enjoyable or rewarding than protecting a child who needs us, while helping to strengthen that child’s family. We love knowing that what we do will have a long-lasting positive impact on people who need us. We’re proud of changing our communities for the better, one family at a time.

And the fact that we get to do such important work with Alaska as our back yard doesn’t hurt a bit!

It’s true, we might occasionally have sore feet from too much hiking or snowshoeing. We might smell a bit like salmon first thing in the morning from too much fishing. We might be momentarily absent as we gaze from our office windows at Mt. McKinley or a multitude of other majestic mountains. But we work hard, too. And at the end of our day, we know one thing for certain: We’ve made a difference in a child’s life. What could be better than that?

The State of Alaska employs two classifications of Child Protective Services case workers:

The minimum qualifications for the Children's Services Specialist job class requires either a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in social, behavioral or health science, law or a related field, OR four years in any combination of education from an accredited institution in social, behavior or health science, law or a related field (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) and paraprofessional experience (any level) providing assistance, information or referrals to the public related to social services, health care or legal services.

The minimum qualifications for a Social Worker (Children's Services) require possession of a current Social Worker license issued by the State of Alaska, OR a bachelor’s degree or higher in social work from an accredited college or university and eligibility for licensure as a Social Worker in the State of Alaska.  (An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon completion of the licensing requirement, and may begin work after obtaining and providing proof of the required license.)

So what are you thinking now?  Please join us in doing something very special — serving Alaska's most precious resources, our children and families, while delighting in our state's natural wonders.
